Your Chinese zodiac birth-year label combines a twelve-animal branch with a Heavenly Stem. The stem supplies one of five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water. Because the traditional year changes at Lunar New Year, a January or early-February birthday may belong to the previous animal-element pairing.
Why two websites can disagree
"Chinese zodiac element" is used for more than one idea. One page may show an element traditionally associated with an animal, while another uses the element of the year's Heavenly Stem. A full BaZi chart adds another concept: the Day Master, which comes from the day stem. These labels are not interchangeable.
The birth-year element
This is the element paired with your lunar birth year in the sixty-year cycle. It is the layer used by the free Aura Sage snapshot.
The animal's traditional association
Some simplified charts assign one stable element to each animal. That can be a useful cultural reference, but it is not the same as the changing year-stem element.
The Day Master
A Day Master belongs to a complete Four Pillars calculation. It cannot be inferred from the animal or birth year alone.
Use the answer without turning it into a label

Is my zodiac element the same as my Day Master?
